Nugget and flake machines freeze water inside a refrigerated cylinder, with a gear-driven auger pushing ice up and out through a head. Water Lines Behind Built-In Refrigerators

Counter-depth and built-in refrigerators in Uptown kitchens leave very little room behind them, and the water line feeding the ice maker is often coiled, pinched or pushed against the wall when the unit is slid back. A partly crushed line or a clogged water filter starves the ice maker and produces small, hollow cubes. Replace the filter if it is overdue, confirm the ice maker arm or switch is on, and check that the freezer is cold enough. If your condo has a separate undercounter ice machine at a bar or island, it needs its drain clear and its front vent unobstructed.
