Why is my Avanti wine cooler warm in the summer but fine in winter?

Thermoelectric coolers can only cool a limited amount below the surrounding room temperature. In a warm room, they may not reach their set point. Moving the cooler to a cooler room or choosing a compressor model for warm spaces solves this.

The lower zone of our dual-zone wine cooler in Marvin runs warm while the upper is fine. Why?

In a dual-zone unit, each zone depends on its own sensor and air path. A failed fan, damper or sensor in one zone is the usual cause, which is often a reasonable repair. We test both zones to confirm.

Thermoelectric models use a solid-state module that moves heat from inside to outside when current flows through it, with a small fan on each side. Compressor models use a refrigeration system much like a compact refrigerator. Thermoelectric units are quiet and vibration-free but can only cool a limited amount below room temperature. Compressor units cool harder but have more parts that can fail.

Dual-Zone Units and Full-Height Columns

Wine coolers here range from a dual-zone undercounter unit at the kitchen island to a full-height wine column built into the cabinetry, plus beverage centers in bonus rooms and outdoor kitchens. Dual-zone models rely on fans, dampers and two sensors to hold separate temperatures, so one zone drifting while the other is fine often points to a fan or sensor, not the cooling system.

Because wine is sensitive to heat, act early. Move valuable bottles somewhere cool if the cooler warms. With the unit unplugged, vacuum the front grille, which pulls in pollen and dust, and check the door gasket for gaps. Humid summers can make a weak seal show up as condensation or frost inside.
