Why does my Bosch washer stop with water left in the drum?

In most cases the drain pump filter at the front bottom of the machine is clogged. With the power off, place towels down and clean the filter slowly. If it still will not drain, the pump or a drain hose may need attention.

More often the stains come from iron in the well water rather than the washer itself. An iron or sediment filter at the well usually solves it. If the drum or tub shows real rust, we can inspect it during a visit.

Well Water and Work Clothes

Two things shape washer repairs out here. First, private wells carry sediment and sometimes iron, which collect in the screens at the hose connections and inside the water valve. Fills slow down, some machines show a fill error, and light fabrics can pick up an orange tint. Second, heavy loads of mud-caked jeans, coveralls and towels strain suspension parts and drain pumps, and grit or small debris from pockets can jam the pump.

Shaking out dirt and emptying pockets before washing goes a long way. If the washer is slow to fill, close both valves, unplug the machine, and check the screens where the hoses attach. If it will not drain, check the pump filter if your model has an access door.
