Turn off the power, set towels down, and open the drain filter flap at the bottom front to let the water out slowly. Clean the filter and check the pump area for debris. If it still won't drain, the pump may need service.

Well Water and Work Clothes

Two things shape washer repairs out here. First, private wells carry sediment and sometimes iron, which collect in the screens at the hose connections and inside the water valve. Fills slow down, some machines show a fill error, and light fabrics can pick up an orange tint. Second, heavy loads of mud-caked jeans, coveralls and towels strain suspension parts and drain pumps, and grit or small debris from pockets can jam the pump.

Shaking out dirt and emptying pockets before washing goes a long way. If the washer is slow to fill, close both valves, unplug the machine, and check the screens where the hoses attach. If it will not drain, check the pump filter if your model has an access door.
