My GE range display is blank but some burners still work. Why?

A range puts the oven, surface burners and controls in a single unit, so a failure can be narrow, like one element, or broad, like a control board that shuts everything down. Before you call, note exactly what works and what does not: oven, broiler, which burners, display, clock. Check the breaker, and try one power reset if the range is acting up after an outage. For propane or gas models, never touch the connection, and leave the home and call for help if you smell gas.
