Not necessarily. Many quiet premium dishwashers dry with less heat and depend heavily on rinse aid. Refill the rinse aid, try the extra-dry option if your model has one, and if dishes are still wet and cold at the end, we test the heater and its controls.

A dishwasher that runs back-to-back cycles works its pump, heater and door latch harder than usual, and the filter at the bottom fills faster than many owners expect. In larger lake-side kitchens, panel-ready dishwashers carry cabinet-matching fronts, which add weight to the door springs and make the unit trickier to pull out. Some homes also have a second dishwasher or a dishwasher drawer in a butler's pantry or bar.

Clean the filter, clear the spray arms and check that the drain hose under the sink is not kinked. After a summer storm, a dishwasher that will not respond may simply need a reset at the breaker. If water leaks, turn off the supply and power.
