Amana Microwaves: What We Check First

Amana introduced the countertop microwave to American kitchens with the Radarange in the 1960s, and today it sells over-the-range and countertop models built through Whirlpool. Over-the-range units add an exhaust fan and cooktop light. The current models are plain, practical units whose insides follow the standard pattern of magnetron, high-voltage transformer, capacitor, diode and a stack of door interlock switches.

Built-in and drawer microwaves in larger kitchens

A number of Indian Land kitchens have a microwave drawer in the island or a built-in unit stacked above a wall oven. If the vent fan grinds, the light flickers or the unit will not heat, check the breaker and the door latch, and clean the grease filters. Never open the outer case, since the high-voltage parts inside can hold a dangerous charge even when unplugged.
