Wet Nugget ice can come from low refrigeration performance, a dirty condenser, heavy scale in the cylinder or an overfilled water reservoir. Warm surroundings can also play a part. We check each to find the cause.

The ice in my Indian Land French-door refrigerator keeps fusing into a block. Why?

That usually means the ice compartment is getting too warm, often from a leaking compartment seal or a failing fan. Check that the cover closes tightly. If the problem continues, we can test the fan and seal.

Scotsman Ice Makers: What We Check First

Scotsman ice machines we see in the Charlotte area fall into three groups, and each is built differently. Prodigy cube machines freeze water on an evaporator and use hot gas to harvest. Nugget and flake machines freeze water inside a refrigerated cylinder, with a gear-driven auger pushing ice up and out through a head. Gourmet undercounter cubers spray water upward into cups to form clear, top-hat-shaped cubes. The first thing we do is identify which one you have.

Door dispensers and in-door ice makers

Many French-door refrigerators in 29707 put the ice maker in the fresh-food door, sealed in its own compartment with a small fan. If that seal leaks or the fan fails, ice melts and refreezes into a solid block, and the dispenser jams. Empty the bin, break up the clump and let the compartment thaw, then check that the cover closes tightly.

A clogged filter or a frozen fill tube can also stop ice production. Replace the filter if it is past its change date, and give the ice maker a day to recover before calling. If the line behind the refrigerator was kinked during a move or a floor replacement, it may need to be repaired.
