The burner cap is likely tilted, or food has clogged some of the burner ports. Turn off the stove, let it cool, clear the ports with a pin and reseat the cap firmly. If the flame stays uneven, the burner head may be damaged.

Is it worth fixing an older electric stove in my East Charlotte ranch?
