Two Towns With Different Personalities

Matthews grew around a historic downtown by the railroad tracks and expanded outward with subdivisions over several decades. Much of the housing is single-family subdivisions built over several decades, with a range of ages and kitchen updates. Close to the center, a few older houses remain, while newer townhomes and apartments sit near the shopping areas off US-74.

Mint Hill has a more spread-out feel. Alongside its suburban neighborhoods, you will find larger lots and homes set back from the road, and the town keeps some rural character toward its eastern edges. Garages, workshops and outbuildings are common, and many households keep a second refrigerator or freezer out there.

Appliances of Every Age

Because these towns grew steadily over a long period, appliance ages vary widely from street to street. A home built in the early 1990s might still have a sturdy older washer that is worth fixing, while a newer home might have an efficient front-loader with electronic controls that need a different approach.

Older top-load washers and electric dryers are usually simple machines with good parts availability. Newer high-efficiency models save water and energy but depend on sensors, door locks and control boards. Knowing which type you have helps us estimate whether a repair will be quick and how likely it is that parts are on hand.

Refrigerators deserve a closer look as they age. An older unit with a failing compressor or a sealed-system leak may not be worth the cost of repair, while a fan motor, defrost heater or thermostat replacement usually is. A refrigerator that cycles on and off rapidly, clicks without starting, or feels warm on the sides is worth having checked before it fails completely and takes the food with it.

Wells, Weather and Outbuildings

Most homes in both towns are on municipal water, but if your property uses a private well, sediment and iron can clog washer inlet screens, slow ice maker fill, and leave deposits in dishwashers. Cleaning the inlet screens on your washer, with the water off, can restore normal fill. Whole-house sediment filters are worth discussing with a plumber or well contractor.

Freezers and refrigerators in garages or sheds work hard through hot summers. If one is struggling, make sure it has clearance around the coils and is not in direct sun. Ice storms and summer thunderstorms can knock out power for hours, so check frozen food carefully after a long outage before refreezing it.

Getting to Southeast Mecklenburg

US-74 and I-485 are the main routes through this area, and congestion along Independence Boulevard can affect timing. We plan routes to keep windows realistic and often have same-day openings when the schedule allows. Repairs carry a 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty, and we work on all major brands.

If your appliance is still within its manufacturer's warranty, we will point that out. When a repair does not make financial sense, we say so and explain why, so you can decide whether to fix or replace. Either way, you get the diagnosis and the price before any work is done, and nothing proceeds until you approve it.
