Sparks often come from a burned or greasy waveguide cover on the cavity wall, chipped interior paint, or metal left inside. Stop using it until the cause is found. Replacing the cover is an inexpensive repair if the magnetron has not been damaged.

Roper Microwaves: What We Check First

Roper has never been a big name in microwaves, and you will not find many Roper-badged units in local kitchens. When one does turn up, it is a Whirlpool-sourced countertop or over-the-range model with the same basic layout as other budget microwaves: a magnetron, a high-voltage transformer, capacitor and diode, a set of door interlock switches, a turntable motor and, on over-the-range units, a vent fan and light. Built-In Microwaves and Space-Saving Models
