Why does my Amana dryer not start at all?

On many Amana dryers, a blown thermal fuse cuts power to the motor. A failed door switch or start switch can also cause it. We test each and check the vent, since a clogged vent often causes the fuse to blow.

Could my dryer vent be disconnected under my NoDa house?

Yes. Crawl-space ducts can come loose or be crushed, sending moist air and lint under the house. That slows drying and adds moisture to the crawl space. If our airflow test suggests a problem below the floor, we will tell you.

Do animals really nest in dryer vents in Plaza Midwood?

Crawl-Space Vents and Slow Drying

In mill cottages and bungalows, the dryer frequently vents through a hole in the floor and runs along the crawl space to an opening in the foundation or siding. That path collects lint, pollen and moisture, and sometimes small animals nest in it. A crushed or disconnected duct below the floor can push moist, lint-laden air into the crawl space instead of outside.

Signs include long drying times, a very hot dryer cabinet, a burning smell or a dryer that stops heating after the thermal fuse trips. With the dryer unplugged, check that the connector behind it is not crushed, and look at the outside opening to see whether the flap moves when the dryer runs.

Owners of gas dryers who notice a gas smell should leave and call the gas utility or 911. The technician tests heating parts, sensors and the motor, measures airflow, and tells you whether the crawl-space duct needs cleaning or repair.
