My Everest back-bar cooler runs constantly but beer is not cold. Why?

Back-bar units breathe through the front, and if bottles, mats or trim block the grille, the condenser overheats. A dirty coil does the same. Clearing the front and cleaning the coil fixes many cases; if not, we test fans and refrigeration.

The fridge in my NoDa mill cottage won't keep its doors closed. Is that a repair?

Often it is an adjustment. Older floors can slope, and tilting the fridge slightly back with its leveling legs helps the doors swing shut. If the gasket is torn or a hinge is worn, we can replace those parts.

Upright reach-ins have the compressor in its own compartment and an evaporator fan blowing down the cabinet. Prep tables split cold air between a lower cabinet and a top rail of food pans. Back-bar coolers sit low under counters with limited breathing room, and glass-door merchandisers add heaters to keep doors from fogging.

Alcoves and Sloping Floors

Kitchens in NoDa's mill cottages and Plaza Midwood's bungalows were often expanded piece by piece, and the refrigerator ends up in whatever space was left. A fridge without room for air to move around the condenser runs warmer and longer, especially when a small kitchen heats up in July. Old floors that slope can also keep doors from swinging closed on their own, letting humid air in and frost build in the freezer. Adjust the leveling legs so the doors close by themselves, and vacuum the coils with the fridge unplugged.

New Infill, New Electronics

Townhomes and apartments near the light rail, and along the rebuilt blocks of Belmont and Villa Heights, tend to have recent refrigerators with large control boards. Flickering power during storms can leave them beeping or not cooling, so unplug for a few minutes to reset. Older outlets that were never updated can also make a new fridge act strangely, and we will point that out if we see it.
