Sharp Microwaves: What We Check First

It sits below a counter or wall oven and opens and closes at the touch of a button, powered by a small motor, gears and slides. Inside, it heats food like any other microwave, with a magnetron, transformer, capacitor, diode and control board. Over-the-range models add a vent fan and lights that serve as a range hood.

Microwaves in Small Kitchens

With limited counter space in mill cottages and bungalows, an over-the-range microwave is a natural choice. It handles venting for the stove as well, so its fan, lights and filters wear from heat and grease. Grease filters that are never cleaned make the fan noisy and weak.
