What to Gather Before the Appointment
On a wall oven, open the door and look along the frame or behind the lower trim strip for the model and serial label. For a chest or upright freezer, check the back of the cabinet or the side near the hinge. Write the number down or snap a photo, and mention the brand when you book.
If the oven has a fault code on the display, note it. Turning the breaker off and back on before the visit is fine, but write down what the display showed first. Condo residents should mention any parking or check-in rules for service visitors.
When Self-Clean Ends in a Dead Oven
The self-clean cycle heats an oven far beyond normal baking temperatures. On an older oven, that heat can push a tired component over the edge: a thermal fuse can open, a control board can fail, or the door lock can stick in the locked position. The oven may go completely dark or refuse to heat afterward.
If that happens, turn off the breaker for a few minutes and try again once the oven is fully cool. Do not force a locked door. If it stays dead, we can test the fuse, lock and control to find which one failed. Many owners decide afterward to clean by hand with a gentle cleaner rather than run self-clean on an older oven, especially before a holiday.
