The fan on my Uptown condo's over-the-range microwave runs but barely pulls smoke. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. Many condo units recirculate air through a charcoal filter, and a saturated filter or greasy mesh filters cut airflow sharply. If fresh filters do not help, the fan motor or its control may be failing, and we can test both.

They have a glass tray or flat floor, sensor cooking programs and, on many models, M Touch controls. Because they are installed in cabinetry and match other Miele appliances, replacing one is rarely a simple swap. Some speed ovens also offer a grill element for browning, which adds another heating circuit to test.

When the Microwave Is Also the Range Hood

Clean or replace the metal grease filters, and the charcoal filter if your model has one; a clogged filter makes the fan loud and weak. Do not open the cabinet. A microwave stores high voltage in its capacitor even when unplugged, so internal testing belongs to a technician.
