All my Dacor burners click when I turn one knob. Is that normal?

Yes, on many gas cooktops every igniter sparks together when any burner is lit, then stops once the flame is established. Constant clicking after the flame catches is not normal. That usually means moisture in a switch or a failing switch or module.

One burner on our Stallings gas cooktop clicks nonstop. Is that dangerous?

It is usually moisture or a misaligned cap rather than a gas problem, but it should not be ignored. Dry the burner area and reseat the cap with the cooktop off. If clicking continues, the spark switch or module is likely at fault, which we can replace.

Can you repair a cracked glass cooktop in an Indian Trail kitchen?

Dacor Cooktops: What We Check First

Dacor builds cooktops in two very different technologies. The gas models use sealed burners with electronic spark ignition, often with lit control knobs, and they range from 30-inch units to wide professional-style rangetops. The induction models use copper coils under a glass surface, driven by power electronics that create a magnetic field to heat the pan directly. A clicking gas burner and a dead induction zone have almost nothing in common, so the first step is knowing which you own.

Burners, Elements and Touch Controls

Upgraded kitchen packages in these subdivisions often swapped the range for a counter-mounted cooktop over cabinets. On gas cooktops, the usual complaints are igniters that keep clicking after the flame lights, burners that will not light because a spark module or switch has failed, or weak flames from clogged ports. Electric glass-tops lose radiant elements, infinite switches, or touch controls that stop responding after spills.

Spills are worth a closer look. Liquid that runs under the knobs or across a touch panel can short switches, so wipe controls dry and let them sit unused for a day before deciding anything has failed. On gas models, lift the burner caps with everything off and make sure they are seated squarely, since a misaligned cap causes uneven flames and constant clicking.

If you ever smell gas, turn nothing on, leave the house and call the gas utility or 911. For other problems, the technician tests the igniters, switches, elements and controls under the counter, then explains and quotes the fix. Because these cooktops are wired or plumbed into the counter, we tell you up front if the repair means lifting the unit out of its cutout.
