My Hotpoint gas oven igniter glows but there is no flame. Why?

Glow-bar igniters weaken with age and may glow without drawing enough current to open the gas safety valve. That gives long preheats or no heat. Replacing the igniter is the usual repair, and we confirm it by measuring the current draw.
