Maytag Microwaves: What We Check First

Underneath the styling it is Whirlpool hardware: a magnetron fed by a transformer, capacitor and diode, a stack of door interlock switches, a touch control, a turntable motor, and a two-speed or multi-speed vent motor that pulls air from the cooktop below and sends it outside or back through a charcoal filter.

Worth a Repair, or Not

Countertop microwaves rarely justify a service call, especially this far out, and we will say so. Over-the-range models are different: they double as the range hood and are mounted to the wall and cabinet, so replacing one is a bigger job. Common faults include a unit that runs but does not heat, door switches that fail, a dead control after a storm surge, and a vent fan or light that quits.

Check the breaker first, and after an outage try one power reset. Do not remove the outer cover; the capacitor inside can hold a dangerous charge even when the microwave is unplugged. Give us the model number when you book so parts can be checked ahead of a route-day visit.
