Small coolers, specific problems

A beverage cooler under a remodeled counter or a freestanding wine fridge in a den runs a small cooling system with little margin. Dust on the front grille, a door that does not latch, or a spot next to the oven or a sunny window can be enough to push the temperature up. Freestanding models tucked into a cabinet without the right clearance are a common cause of trouble.

Clean the vent grille, confirm the door closes evenly, and move the cooler away from heat sources if you can. If it still will not hold temperature, ices up on the back wall or rattles loudly, we test the fans, sensor, controls and cooling system, and tell you honestly if a small unit is not worth the repair. Compressor models are usually the better repair candidates.
