Why is only one of my JennAir column units warm?

Column refrigerators and freezers are separate appliances with their own sealed systems and controls. A fault in one does not affect the other, so the warm cabinet needs its own diagnosis. Fans, sensors and condenser airflow are the first things we check.

Our Indian Land house came with a builder refrigerator from years ago. Is it worth fixing?

The center flap on my Indian Land French-door refrigerator sweats in summer. Is that normal?

A little condensation can appear on very humid days, but beading water or frost along the center seal usually means the flap heater or the door alignment needs attention. Check that both doors close evenly and the flap folds flat. If the sweating continues, we can test the flap and adjust the doors.

Most JennAir refrigerators we open in Charlotte are built-ins or column units, and they behave differently from a standard freestanding fridge. On many built-in models the compressor and condenser live at the top of the cabinet behind a grille, with the evaporator and fans down in the fresh food and freezer sections. Column units split refrigeration into separate cabinets, each with its own sealed system and electronics, so one side can fail while the other runs perfectly.

Original builder refrigerators reaching middle age

Homes from the earlier phases of Indian Land's growth may still have the refrigerator the builder installed, and those units are now old enough for wear parts to give out. Evaporator fans start to chirp, defrost heaters fail and leave a sheet of frost behind the freezer panel, and dispenser water valves begin to drip. Simple checks before a visit

French-door models are sensitive to door alignment, and a door that sits a little low lets humid summer air in along the center seal. Close each door slowly and check that the center flap folds properly. Then unplug the unit and vacuum the grille and coils at the bottom, which collect yellow pine pollen every spring. If the fresh-food side still runs warm a day later, book a visit and we will test the fans, the defrost system and the controls.
