Viking Stoves: What We Check First
Most Viking stoves in local kitchens are freestanding all-gas pro ranges in 30, 36 or 48-inch widths, from the older Professional series and the newer 5 Series and 7 Series. On top are heavy sealed burners with spark ignition and cast grates. Below, the oven uses a gas bake burner lit by a hot-surface glow-bar igniter, and many models have a Gourmet-Glo infrared broiler at the top of the oven with its own igniter. Older stoves use a mechanical oven thermostat; newer ones use a sensor and electronic control.

Burners that click, sputter or stay cold
A gas stove burner that clicks endlessly or will not catch usually has moisture or food in the cap or ports, often from a boil-over. Remove the grate and cap, clean the ports gently and let everything dry fully before trying again. If one burner keeps clicking after it lights, the spark switch for that knob may be failing.
On a glass-top electric stove, a cold element can be the element itself, its limiter or the infinite switch. A cracked glass surface should not be used, because spills can reach live parts beneath. Check the breaker if the whole top goes dead, especially after a thunderstorm.

If you smell gas around the stove and the burners are off, open no switches, get everyone out and call the gas utility or 911. We repair igniters, valves, switches and wiring inside the stove, but not gas supply lines. The technician explains the fault and gives the price before any work.
