Maytag Ranges: What We Check First

Maytag has a long history with ranges, including the Gemini double-oven models that put a small upper oven above a larger lower one, an idea current Maytag double-oven ranges still carry. Today's freestanding and slide-in Maytag ranges are Whirlpool-platform designs with a Power Burner on gas cooktops, Power Preheat in the oven and electronic controls that run both cavities on double-oven models. On electric versions, everything draws from a single 240-volt supply that enters through a terminal block at the back.

Pro-Style Ranges on the Lake

A professional-style range in a Lake Norman kitchen may carry six burners, a griddle and one or two ovens. Spark modules, burner valves, convection fans and oven igniters or elements are the usual repairs. Because these ranges are heavy and fitted tight to the cabinets, moving one forward for service takes care and floor protection.

Slide-in ranges in newer Davidson subdivisions rely on a front control panel and board. Surges from summer storms, spills that seep behind the touch panel, and failing oven sensors are common causes of trouble, and they can look alike from the outside.

Before You Book and During the Visit

If you smell gas, leave the home and call the gas utility or 911. Otherwise, try a breaker reset after an outage, check that control lock is off, and note any error message. Seasonal owners should mention when someone will be home to open the house.
