Why does my Asko condenser dryer take so long?

Lint that gets past the main filter gradually coats the condenser, so moist air stays in the drum. Clean the filters after every load and rinse the condenser as your manual describes. If drying is still slow, a sensor, element or fan fault may be involved and we can test them.

Asko's compact dryers come in vented and condenser versions, and that distinction drives almost every diagnosis. A vented Asko pushes moist air outside through a duct like a conventional dryer. A condenser model keeps the air inside a closed loop, passes it over a condenser to pull out moisture, and either collects the water in a container or sends it to a drain. Both rely on clean, unrestricted airflow to dry clothes in a reasonable time.

Carport Laundry Rooms and Daily Drying

Many ranch homes here have the laundry in a room off the carport or a utility space that is not air-conditioned. In late summer that room can be very hot and humid, so the dryer works harder, takes longer and cycles its thermostats more often. Vents usually exit straight through an exterior wall, which is a short path, but the outside hood still clogs with lint and pollen. Daily use wears belts, drum rollers and idler pulleys, which announce themselves with squeals and thumps. Gas dryers, common in parts of 28215, tend to stop heating because of a failed igniter, gas valve coils or a flame sensor.

Checking Safely Before the Technician Arrives

Clean the lint screen and check the outside flap while the dryer runs. Unplug it before pulling it out, and on a gas dryer, close the appliance shutoff valve without disturbing the line. Never service the gas valve yourself, and if you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility or 911. We test the heating system, fuse and motor and give you the price first.
