Why does my MaxxIce keep making ice when the bin is full?

The bin sensor tells the machine to stop, and if it is blocked, dirty or failed, production continues until ice overflows. Check that nothing is in the way of the sensor. If it is clear, the sensor or control needs testing.

The ice maker water line in my East Charlotte ranch comes from the crawl space. Could that be the problem?

It could. Older saddle valves and thin tubing under the floor can clog, kink or leak. We check the water flow at the refrigerator. If the fault is in the plumbing below the floor, we tell you so a plumber can replace the valve.

Why does my side-by-side keep jamming with clumped ice?

Frequent door openings, a weak door seal or a freezer running slightly warm let cubes partly melt and refreeze together. Empty and thaw the bucket. If it clumps again soon, we check the seal, fan and temperature controls.

Both use a refrigerated evaporator grid, a water pump and distribution system, sensors that decide when the cubes are ready, and a hot-gas harvest. Undercounter models typically breathe through the front, which makes the installation a big part of how well they work.

High Demand and Water Lines Through the Floor

In East Charlotte ranch homes, the refrigerator's water line often comes up through the floor from the crawl space, sometimes from an old saddle valve tapped into a pipe below. Those valves can clog, partly close or start to drip, which slows ice production or leaves water under the kitchen floor. A clogged filter has a similar effect, producing small, hollow cubes. High demand creates its own jams. When the dispenser is used constantly and the door is opened often, cubes partly melt and refreeze into a solid block that stops the auger, especially in side-by-side models.

What to Check and What We Test

Make sure the water supply valve is fully open, replace the filter if it is overdue and check that the ice maker switch is on. Unplug the fridge before breaking up a jammed bucket. If a leak appears near the fridge, shut off the supply valve.
