Only one of my Gaggenau Vario modules stopped working. Is the whole cooktop failing?

Usually not. Vario modules are individual appliances with their own controls and often their own circuit, so one can fail while the rest work normally. Checking the breaker first is worthwhile, and a technician can then test that module on its own.

The touch controls on my glass cooktop in a Northlake-area home stopped responding. What can I do?

Turn off the cooktop's breaker for a few minutes and restore it, since a power flicker can freeze the controls. Wipe the control area dry, because moisture can confuse touch sensors. If it still does not respond, the control board or touch panel needs testing.

One coil burner on my older stovetop in Northwest Charlotte won't heat. Is it the element?

Swap it with a working element of the same size, with the breaker off. If the swapped element works, the original element is bad. If the problem stays in that position, the receptacle or switch is at fault, and both are common, inexpensive repairs.

Gaggenau Cooktops: What We Check First

A Gaggenau cooktop is often not a single cooktop at all. The Vario system lets designers line up separate modules in the counter: gas burners, a high-output wok, induction zones, a Teppan Yaki griddle, an electric grill, a fryer or a steamer, sometimes alongside a downdraft vent module. Each piece has its own controls and electrical supply, and Gaggenau also makes larger single induction and gas cooktops. The first job on any visit is working out which module is faulty and how it is powered.

Glass Tops, Touch Controls and Older Coil Surfaces

Newer homes around Northlake and the lake often have smooth glass cooktops, either as part of a range or set into the counter. Common problems include a radiant element that will not heat, a hot-surface light stuck on, and touch controls that stop responding after a power flicker. Older ranch homes in 28216 more often have coil tops, where burned-out elements, scorched receptacles and switches stuck on high are the norm. Gas cooktops are less common here but do appear, and their usual issue is an igniter that clicks constantly after cleaning or a spill.

Turn off the breaker before touching any element. On a coil top, try the dead element in a different position to see whether the problem moves with it. On gas, let burner parts dry fully and reseat the caps; if you smell gas, leave and call the gas utility or 911.
