Maytag Ranges: What We Check First

Maytag has a long history with ranges, including the Gemini double-oven models that put a small upper oven above a larger lower one, an idea current Maytag double-oven ranges still carry. Today's freestanding and slide-in Maytag ranges are Whirlpool-platform designs with a Power Burner on gas cooktops, Power Preheat in the oven and electronic controls that run both cavities on double-oven models. On electric versions, everything draws from a single 240-volt supply that enters through a terminal block at the back.

Smart Ranges and Older Gas Ranges

Newer townhomes near the light rail and along rebuilt blocks in Villa Heights and Belmont often have smart or induction ranges with touch controls and connectivity. Power flickers during summer storms can lock the controls, and induction ranges need a working cooling fan. Convection fans and self-clean door locks are other parts that wear. A breaker reset is a good first step.

In Plaza Midwood bungalows, a gas range may be fed by a line extended during renovations. Burners that will not light, ovens slow to ignite and thermostats that drift are the usual complaints. Gas odor in the house is a signal to get out and call the gas utility or 911.
