All my Dacor burners click when I turn one knob. Is that normal?

Yes, on many gas cooktops every igniter sparks together when any burner is lit, then stops once the flame is established. Constant clicking after the flame catches is not normal. That usually means moisture in a switch or a failing switch or module.

The glass cooktop in my Pineville rental has a crack. Can I keep using it?

No. A cracked glass top can let spills reach live parts and can break further when heated. Stop using the cooktop, report it to your landlord, and a technician can confirm whether the glass panel can be replaced on that model.

One coil burner in our older Pineville kitchen only works if I jiggle it. What is wrong?

That usually means a burned or loose terminal block, the socket the coil plugs into. Turn off the breaker and stop using that burner. Replacing the block and, if needed, the coil is a common and modest repair.

Dacor Cooktops: What We Check First

Dacor builds cooktops in two very different technologies. The gas models use sealed burners with electronic spark ignition, often with lit control knobs, and they range from 30-inch units to wide professional-style rangetops. The induction models use copper coils under a glass surface, driven by power electronics that create a magnetic field to heat the pan directly. A clicking gas burner and a dead induction zone have almost nothing in common, so the first step is knowing which you own.

Glass Tops, Coil Elements and the Occasional Built-In

Separate built-in cooktops are less common in Pineville than in larger suburban homes, but they do turn up in some townhomes and in older houses remodeled with a wall oven and counter-mounted cooktop. More often, cooktop trouble here means the top of a range: smooth glass in newer apartments and coil elements in older units.

Glass tops crack when a heavy pot drops on them or a cold spill hits a hot zone, and a cracked surface must not be used. Coil elements fail at their terminal block, especially after years of tenants lifting them out to clean the drip pans. A radiant zone that glows on one setting only usually points to a switch or relay rather than the element.

Switch off the breaker before checking a coil connection, and never cook on a cracked glass top. If you smell gas on a gas model, leave and call the gas utility or 911. We test the element, switch and wiring and let the owner know the price before repairing.
