Can I replace a Roper coil element myself?

Swapping a plug-in coil is simple with the breaker off and the burner cold, as long as the receptacle is undamaged. If the receptacle is scorched or melted, a new coil alone will not fix it and may be damaged quickly. That repair is better left to a technician.

The glass cooktop in my Pineville rental has a crack. Can I keep using it?

No. A cracked glass top can let spills reach live parts and can break further when heated. Stop using the cooktop, report it to your landlord, and a technician can confirm whether the glass panel can be replaced on that model.

One coil burner in our older Pineville kitchen only works if I jiggle it. What is wrong?

Roper Cooktops: What We Check First

Standalone Roper cooktops are not common, so most surface-burner work on Roper equipment involves the top of a Roper range. Electric Ropers almost always use plug-in coil elements set in drip pans, each controlled by an infinite switch that cycles power on and off. Older built-in cooktops with the Roper badge follow the same design. Because each burner is its own circuit, a failure is usually limited to one position.

Glass Tops, Coil Elements and the Occasional Built-In

Separate built-in cooktops are less common in Pineville than in larger suburban homes, but they do turn up in some townhomes and in older houses remodeled with a wall oven and counter-mounted cooktop. More often, cooktop trouble here means the top of a range: smooth glass in newer apartments and coil elements in older units.

Glass tops crack when a heavy pot drops on them or a cold spill hits a hot zone, and a cracked surface must not be used.
