Why does my KitchenAid downdraft cooktop vent not rise?

A downdraft vent that will not rise often has a failed motor, a jammed mechanism or a control fault. Make sure nothing is obstructing it and the grease filter is clean. If it still does not move, the motor or switch likely needs testing.

The glass cooktop in my Pineville rental has a crack. Can I keep using it?

KitchenAid Cooktops: What We Check First

KitchenAid cooktops drop into the countertop and include gas models with high-output burners, electric radiant models, induction models and versions with a built-in downdraft vent. Some gas models offer five burners and continuous grates. Induction models use copper coils and electronic power boards, with a cooling fan underneath to keep the electronics in range. Downdraft models also tuck a blower and ductwork into the cabinet below, which takes up drawer space but pulls smoke down rather than up.

Glass Tops, Coil Elements and the Occasional Built-In

Separate built-in cooktops are less common in Pineville than in larger suburban homes, but they do turn up in some townhomes and in older houses remodeled with a wall oven and counter-mounted cooktop.
