What do the d80, d90 and d95 codes on my LG dryer mean?

They are Flow Sense warnings that the exhaust vent is restricted, with the higher numbers indicating more blockage. The dryer can still run, but it works harder and dries slower. Clean the lint path and the full vent run to the outside, and have the vent inspected if the warning keeps returning.

LG Dryers: What We Check First

LG dryers are not direct-drive like LG washers. They use a conventional belt around the drum, driven by a motor that also powers the blower, with rear rollers and a front bearing or slides supporting the drum. Electric units heat with an element; gas models use an igniter, flame sensor and valve coils. Many LG dryers add a moisture sensor, steam features and a heat pump on some newer models, plus Flow Sense, which watches the exhaust and warns when airflow is restricted.

Long Vent Paths in Ranch Houses and Condos

Mid-century ranches here were not built with today's dryers in mind. When laundry moved into a closet or kitchen corner during a renovation, the vent sometimes ended up running through the attic or across a long wall before it reaches outside. Lint collects at each bend, airflow drops, and the dryer heats but leaves clothes damp, or trips its thermal fuse and quits entirely.

Condo dryers can face a similar problem with long ducts to an exterior wall. Spring pollen and lint also clog the outside hood flap. With the dryer running, step outside and feel for strong, warm airflow; a weak puff tells you the restriction is in the duct, not the machine.

Diagnosis, Gas Models and Repair Choices

Before any check, unplug the dryer, and for a gas model also close its gas valve. On the visit, we measure airflow, test the thermal fuse, thermostats and heating element or igniter, and tell you whether the vent needs cleaning or rerouting.
