Why does my MaxxIce keep making ice when the bin is full?

The bin sensor tells the machine to stop, and if it is blocked, dirty or failed, production continues until ice overflows. Check that nothing is in the way of the sensor. If it is clear, the sensor or control needs testing.

MaxxIce machines are cube makers in two main forms: self-contained undercounter units with a built-in bin, and modular heads that sit on top of a separate storage bin. Both use a refrigerated evaporator grid, a water pump and distribution system, sensors that decide when the cubes are ready, and a hot-gas harvest. Undercounter models typically breathe through the front, which makes the installation a big part of how well they work.

Thin Supply Lines and Undercounter Machines

Older ranch homes in Cotswold and Montclaire sometimes still feed the refrigerator through thin plastic tubing that has been moved during several kitchen updates. That tubing can kink behind the fridge or crack, leaving the ice maker starved or causing a slow leak on the floor. A clogged water filter produces the same small, hollow cubes, so replacing an overdue filter is the easiest first step.

In larger homes near Foxcroft and Quail Hollow, undercounter ice machines in a bar or butler's pantry are more common. Those units need a working drain and periodic cleaning, and a slow or blocked drain often leads to overflow or ice that melts into a block.

Checking It Safely and the Visit

Confirm the water valve to the fridge is open, check the ice maker's on switch and look for a jam of fused cubes in the bucket. Unplug the unit before clearing ice by hand.
