Tri-ring burners have caps and rings that must sit in the correct positions. After cleaning, make sure each piece is properly seated and dry. If one ring still will not light, its ports or electrode may need further cleaning or the switch may be failing.

Glass Tops and Induction in Condo Kitchens

A smoothtop or induction cooktop set into a condo countertop has its electronics packed into a shallow space beneath the glass. An element that stays dark, one that heats only on high, or a touch panel that beeps and shuts down often traces to an infinite switch, a relay on the control board, or a cooling fan on an induction model. Surges from summer storms can also scramble touch controls.

Before calling, switch the cooktop's breaker off for a few minutes and back on, and make sure the glass is dry and clear of pans when you press the controls. Induction surfaces also need cookware that a magnet sticks to. If the glass is cracked, stop using the cooktop entirely.
