Why is my Blomberg built-in microwave shutting off?

Built-in microwaves rely on a cooling fan and ventilation. If the fan fails or vents are blocked, the unit may shut down to protect itself. A failing door switch can also cause intermittent shutoffs.

Blomberg Microwaves: What We Check First

When we do see one, it is usually a built-in unit designed to pair with Blomberg wall ovens, installed in a cabinet or wall cutout rather than sitting on a counter. Internally it follows standard microwave design: a magnetron, high-voltage transformer, capacitor and diode, door interlock switches, a turntable or flat-floor system, and a cooling fan that keeps the electronics from overheating inside the cabinet.

Microwave Drawers, Trim Kits and Combo Stacks

Larger kitchens often move the microwave out of sight. Microwave drawers in islands use a motorized opening mechanism, so in addition to heating faults they can fail with a drawer that will not open, closes partway or stops responding to the touch panel. Built-in units with trim kits and microwave-oven combinations are tied into the cabinetry, which changes how they are removed and serviced.

A dead microwave after a summer storm sometimes just needs its power reset. Check the breaker, and if the unit has its own outlet in a cabinet, make sure it is still live. Do not open the housing: the high-voltage capacitor inside can hold a dangerous charge long after the plug is pulled.
