Maytag Ranges: What We Check First

Maytag has a long history with ranges, including the Gemini double-oven models that put a small upper oven above a larger lower one, an idea current Maytag double-oven ranges still carry. Today's freestanding and slide-in Maytag ranges are Whirlpool-platform designs with a Power Burner on gas cooktops, Power Preheat in the oven and electronic controls that run both cavities on double-oven models. On electric versions, everything draws from a single 240-volt supply that enters through a terminal block at the back.

One ZIP, many kinds of range

A Clover farmhouse may have a propane range or an older electric one, while a Lake Wylie kitchen might have a slide-in dual-fuel model. Each fails differently. Propane ranges need correct orifices, older electric ranges usually need an element or switch, and dual-fuel ranges combine gas burners with an electric oven that has its own controls.

Power blips on rural and lakeside lines can damage the electronic controls on newer ranges. If a range stops responding after an outage, switch its breaker off for a few minutes and back on. A range whose burners still work but whose oven stays cold has a separate fault in the oven circuit, and that is usually a reasonable repair.
