Maytag Ranges: What We Check First

Maytag has a long history with ranges, including the Gemini double-oven models that put a small upper oven above a larger lower one, an idea current Maytag double-oven ranges still carry. Today's freestanding and slide-in Maytag ranges are Whirlpool-platform designs with a Power Burner on gas cooktops, Power Preheat in the oven and electronic controls that run both cavities on double-oven models. On electric versions, everything draws from a single 240-volt supply that enters through a terminal block at the back.

Slide-in and dual-fuel ranges in newer homes

Slide-in ranges fit flush between cabinets and often have front controls, a glass or sealed-burner top and a convection oven below. That tight fit means the unit usually has to come out to reach the gas connection, the anti-tip bracket or the rear wiring. The technician protects the floor and reinstalls the bracket afterward, because a range without one can tip when the open oven door is loaded.

Dual-fuel ranges combine gas burners with an electric oven, so they need both a gas line and a 240-volt circuit. The top and the oven are separate systems, and a fault in one does not condemn the other. If the oven stops heating after a summer storm while the burners still light, start by resetting the range's breaker.

When a range repair makes sense

Ranges in a lot of Fort Mill homes are young enough that a bake element, igniter, sensor or control board is a reasonable repair. If the range is still within the manufacturer's warranty, we will tell you before anything else.
