Nugget and flake machines freeze water inside a refrigerated cylinder, with a gear-driven auger pushing ice up and out through a head. Supply lines, filters and older plumbing

The water line to the refrigerator in an older Rock Hill home may have been added years after the kitchen was built, often as thin tubing run through a wall or floor. Those lines kink, crack or get pinched when the refrigerator is moved. A partly closed or corroded valve on that line will starve the ice maker and leave you with small, hollow or no cubes.

Newer refrigerators with filters need them changed on schedule, because a clogged filter restricts flow to both the dispenser and the ice maker.
