Sub-Zero ice comes from two very different machines. Most refrigerators and freezers have an automatic ice maker inside the freezer compartment, fed by a water valve and line. Separately, Sub-Zero sells undercounter ice makers that produce clear ice in a dedicated cabinet, often installed in a bar, butler's pantry or outdoor kitchen. Undercounter units need a water supply, a drain, and either gravity drainage or a drain pump.

Supply lines, filters and older plumbing

The water line to the refrigerator in an older Rock Hill home may have been added years after the kitchen was built, often as thin tubing run through a wall or floor.
