Most built-in wine coolers breathe through a front grille at the toe kick. If that grille is blocked by a rug, dust or pet hair, the cooler struggles in summer and the compressor or fan runs constantly. Freestanding units pushed into a cabinet opening have the same problem from the back. A cooler kept in a hot garage or a sunny bonus room will rarely hold a steady temperature.

Clean the front grille, check that the door closes against a soft, even gasket, and give it a day after any temperature change. If it still drifts, the technician checks the fan, thermostat or sensor, controls and cooling system. Some thermoelectric models are better replaced than repaired, and we will say so.
