They have no defrost heaters or fans, so the list of possible failures is short, but frost management falls to the owner.

Porches, sheds and summer humidity

Older houses in town rarely have room for a freezer inside, so it often lands on a covered porch, in a carport or in a backyard shed. If the freezer is warming, keep the lid closed, plug it directly into a working outlet and check for a tripped GFCI. Clean around the condenser and make sure it is not sitting in direct sun. A chest freezer with thick ice on the walls needs a manual defrost before anything else.
