Why is my LG freezer drawer covered in frost?

Usually the drawer is not sealing, because something is blocking it or the rails or gasket are out of position. A failed defrost system can also cause heavy frost on the back panel. Check that the drawer closes all the way, and call us if frost keeps returning.

Porches, sheds and summer humidity

Older houses in town rarely have room for a freezer inside, so it often lands on a covered porch, in a carport or in a backyard shed. Those spots see summer heat, humidity and pollen, which load the condenser and wear on the compressor, and in winter an ice storm can knock out power for hours. An extension cord or an overloaded porch circuit can also starve the start relay.

If the freezer is warming, keep the lid closed, plug it directly into a working outlet and check for a tripped GFCI. Clean around the condenser and make sure it is not sitting in direct sun. A chest freezer with thick ice on the walls needs a manual defrost before anything else.
