Hotpoint Washers: What We Check First

Hotpoint washers are almost all top-loaders, and current models share their mechanical design with GE's basic top-load line. A motor drives the agitator and basket through a transmission, and a small electric shift actuator moves the transmission between agitate and spin. Older Hotpoint machines used a belt-driven layout instead. Both designs are simple to work on, but each has a short list of parts that wear predictably.

Porch hookups, old standpipes and simple machines

When a washer in an older Kannapolis home will not drain, the machine is not always to blame. Drain hoses here often empty into a standpipe or laundry sink that has been in place for decades and is partly clogged with lint.
