My True freezer's fan does not run after defrost. Why?

A fan delay control keeps the evaporator fan off until the coil gets cold again. If that control fails, or defrost never fully terminates, the fan can stay off and the cabinet warms. We test the control and the defrost sequence.

Our garage freezer stopped after a storm in south Charlotte. What should we check?

Look first at the garage GFCI outlet, since many trip during storms, and then at the breaker. If power is restored and the freezer still does not run, keep the lid closed and schedule a visit so a technician can test the relay, control and compressor.

Can an upright freezer frost up faster in a humid garage?

Yes. Summer air carries moisture in every time the door opens, and a worn gasket lets more in all day long. Check that the gasket seals evenly all the way around. If frost keeps building on the back wall, the defrost system may need testing.

True Freezers: What We Check First

A timer or electronic control periodically stops the compressor, energizes a heater on the evaporator coil, and relies on a termination control to end the heat once the coil has cleared. Fan delay controls keep the evaporator fan off until the coil is cold again.

Garage Heat, Humidity and Summer Outages

A chest or upright freezer in the garage is a common sight in south Charlotte, holding bulk groceries or a season's worth of meals. Garages get very hot in summer, and a freezer in one runs longer and wears its compressor and fan motors harder. Frost buildup on uprights speeds up too, because humid air rushes in each time the door opens.

Summer thunderstorms add another risk. A brief outage followed by a surge can leave a newer freezer with a dead control, or simply trip the GFCI outlet in the garage. Check that outlet and the breaker first, keep the door closed, and move food to another freezer if the temperature keeps climbing.
