Does Maytag make standalone freezers?

Maytag has offered upright freezers in some years, but its freezer lineup is limited compared with its laundry and refrigerator ranges. Most Maytag freezer service involves refrigerator freezer sections. We service both.

My garage chest freezer near Mountain Island Lake won't stay cold in summer. Why?

Many freezers are built for a limited range of room temperatures, and a hot garage can push past it. Keep the freezer out of direct sun with space around it. If it struggles even when the garage is moderate, a thermostat, start relay or sealed-system problem may need diagnosis.

After a long outage in Coulwood, my upright freezer is frosting up. Is it damaged?

It may have a defrost system problem, or ice from the thaw may be blocking airflow. Defrost it fully and see whether it recovers. If frost returns quickly, the defrost heater, sensor or control likely needs testing.

Maytag Freezers: What We Check First

Maytag's freezer offerings have been limited compared with its laundry line, with upright freezers available in some years and the freezer sections of Maytag refrigerators being far more common. Upright frost-free freezers use an evaporator with a fan and automatic defrost behind the rear panel, while refrigerator freezers share the cooling system with the fresh-food side. Both rely on a compressor with a start relay and an overload, and a condenser near the bottom of the unit.

Garage Heat and Long Outages

Chest freezers and uprights often live in the garage here, holding bulk groceries or a catch from the lake. A closed garage in midsummer can exceed what many freezers are designed for, so they run constantly, frost up or slowly warm.
