Chest models are about as simple as refrigeration gets: a compressor, a condenser often built into the cabinet walls, evaporator tubing wrapped around the inner liner, a thermostat and a door gasket. There is no defrost heater or fan to fail, so problems tend to trace to the thermostat, the start components, the gasket or the room the freezer sits in.
