Downdraft models also tuck a blower and ductwork into the cabinet below, which takes up drawer space but pulls smoke down rather than up.

New Cooktops on Older Circuits

Induction and electric smoothtop cooktops draw a lot of current and depend on clean, steady power. In a renovated older home, a cooktop added during a remodel may share a panel with circuits that were never upgraded.
