Water is circulated over a chilled evaporator, and ice builds layer by layer before a harvest cycle releases it into the insulated bin. Melt water and rinse water must leave the unit, either by gravity to a floor drain or through a drain pump when there is no drain below. That drain path is behind a large share of ice maker problems.

Water Lines and Filters in Compact Kitchens

When a refrigerator has been pushed hard against the wall in a compact Pineville kitchen, the plastic or copper water line behind it can kink or crack, and the ice maker is the first thing to stop.
