Why is only one zone of my Thor wine cooler warm?

Each zone relies on its own sensor and air circulation, so a failed fan or sensor in that zone is the usual cause. Check that bottles are not blocking the vent at the back of the zone. If it stays warm, the fan and sensor need testing.

My under-counter wine cooler in a SouthPark kitchen runs all the time. Why?

Check whether it is designed for built-in use. A freestanding model vents from the back and overheats in a cabinet opening. If it is a built-in model, a clogged front grille, a failed condenser fan or a door seal problem is more likely, and we can test each one.

Thor's wine coolers are mostly under-counter units built to sit flush in cabinetry, with stainless-framed glass doors, LED lighting and, on many models, two independently controlled temperature zones. They are compressor-cooled rather than thermoelectric, and because they are installed under a countertop they breathe through a vent at the front base. That vent is the single most important thing to understand about how these units fail.

Built-In Wine Refrigerators and Airflow

Wine coolers designed to be built in vent through the front grille at the bottom. A freestanding model slid under a counter, which sometimes happens during a remodel, has nowhere to dump its heat, so it runs constantly and the bottles warm up. In larger homes toward Quail Hollow and Foxcroft, dual-zone units with separate thermostats can lose one zone to a failed fan or sensor while the other keeps working. Summer humidity also shows up as condensation on the glass door or water pooling inside, often from a weak door gasket or a blocked drain.

A Quick Check, Then a Diagnosis

Unplug the unit, vacuum the front grille and confirm nothing blocks it. Check that the door closes snugly. If a zone still will not hold temperature, we test the fans, thermostat or sensors and the cooling system, and tell you whether repair is worth it for the size and age of the cooler.
