My Maytag Bravos washer won't spin. What should I check?

First make sure the lid is fully closed and nothing is blocking the lock. A slow drain can also prevent spin, so check for a kinked drain hose. If those are fine, the lid lock, belt or drive components may need testing.

Maytag Washers: What We Check First

Maytag washers are the brand's best-known products. Current models are on Whirlpool platforms and include top-loaders with agitators or impellers, such as the Bravos line, plus front-load washers. Many top-loaders lock the lid during agitation and spin and use a drive belt or coupling with a gearcase and shifter. Maytag adds features such as Extra Power and Deep Fill, and some models carry a longer limited warranty on certain parts. Older pre-2006 Maytag machines, including Neptune front-loaders, are a different design.

Wells and inlet screens outside town

Outside the town centers, many homes draw from private wells, and the sediment and iron they carry gather in the washer's inlet screens and fill valve. A machine that fills slowly, stops with a water-supply error or stains clothes orange is often showing the effects. If several water-using appliances act up at once right after well work, a rush of stirred-up sediment is a likely reason.

In Locust's newer two-story homes, the more common worries are upstairs leaks, worn door boots on front-loaders and mildew from humid summers. Wherever you live, turn off the water and unplug the washer before checking hoses and screens. Leaving a front-loader door open between loads helps the boot dry out.
