Ventless dryers are slower than large vented models by design, but a sudden slowdown usually means a clogged condenser or lint filter. Clean both filters and the condenser if yours is removable. If drying times stay long, the heater or sensor may need testing.

A condensation dryer heats air, passes it through the clothes, then cools it across a condenser so the moisture turns into water that drains into a container or a hose. A heat-pump model does the same with a small refrigeration loop instead of an electric heater. Distance to the Outside Wall

Bigger floor plans often put the laundry room in the middle of the second floor, so the dryer's exhaust duct may wind through joists and bends before it exits. Every extra foot and elbow slows airflow. Lint builds up, drying times stretch, and the dryer's safety devices start tripping. Pollen-heavy spring weeks and humid summers only add to the load.

Begin with the lint screen and the outside hood. With the dryer running, the hood flap should open firmly; if it barely moves, the duct needs cleaning by someone equipped to do it. A gas dryer that will not heat should never be opened at the gas connection, and if you notice a gas odor, get everyone outside and call the gas utility or 911.
